Dealing with long Covid

Dealing with long Covid
It is not known just how many people are being affected by the symptoms of long Covid. The Office for National Statistics reported back in May that up to the 6th March 21 that 1.1 million people in the UK appeared to be suffering with various long Covid symptoms.

What are the symptoms of long Covid?

For most people who catch Covid-19 they will usually recover quite quickly. However, for some individuals they may experience long Covid symptoms for weeks or even months after their initial covid onset.

Some of the lasting symptoms of coronavirus can include:

• Chest pain or tightness in the chest. This appears to be a common symptom, and one which can last beyond the initial phase of the Covid infection. However, if you feel your pain is worsening, is sudden or severe, or has changed in anyway then seek medical advice immediately
• Heart palpitations
• Anxiety
• Depression
• Tiredness / fatigue
• Joint or muscle pains
• Shortness of breath
• Loss of taste and smell
• A cough that just won’t go away
• Circulatory problems

For some individuals they may feel that one minute they seem to be recovering from the virus, and then the next minute they feel worse again.

So how long can Covid last?
The answer to this is still not yet fully understood. Covid affects individuals in different ways. Covid-19 is like any other viral illness and can bring with it some long lasting symptoms. There has been clinical research to suggest that the symptoms can continue for five months or more. Indeed, some individuals have reported having symptoms which have lasted 12 months or more.
